Mariel Masque

Born from sand, sun, water and waves in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Venezuela and the United States, Mariel Masque is a  fiction, poetry, fable, creative non-fiction, and non-fiction writer. Quantum physics and the surreal masters, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Joan Miro, Frida Kahlo, and Francis Bacon, inspire her writing. Mariel coined Lucid Surrealism (LS), a hybrid literary style where multiple realities coexist. LS blends fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, fable and epistles to frame the author’s Caribbean Mestiza queer surreal world and Latina, Spanish, and Moorish roots. LS weave tales that celebrate her mixed heritage and bridge her diverse cultures, roots, and believes.

Mariel served on the editorial board of two Latina magazines: “Esto No Tiene Nombre” and “Conmoción.” Anthologized in the U.S. and Canada and a featured reader at various national venues, Mariel’s short story Birth of a Poet,  appeared in Label Me Latina/o, an online, refereed international e-journal that focuses on Latino Literary Production in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Her poetry appeared in Quills Edge Press 50 over 50’s Anthology 2018. Work in progress includes a five-novel series. A  member of the Southwest Latina writers group, Mujeres Que Escriben, Mariel reads poetry and fiction in a variety of venues. She lives in the Sonoran Desert in Oro Valley, Arizona, with her gatos Magia, Oráculo y Aragon.
